OpenVPN GUI

OpenVPN GUI is the official graphical user interface for the OpenVPN client on Windows. It allows users to easily import, manage, and launch VPN connections via .ovpn configuration files — directly from the system tray.

It is especially useful when:

  • You need a stable and secure VPN client on Windows
  • You work with .ovpn files to connect to private networks
  • You want a system tray-based interface instead of CLI
  • You use self-hosted or third-party OpenVPN servers

This installer includes both the OpenVPN core and the GUI frontend for easy configuration and use. It supports Windows 7 and newer (64-bit).

FAQ

Does OpenVPN GUI include a VPN service?
No. OpenVPN GUI is only a client. You need access to an OpenVPN server (either self-hosted or provided by a VPN service).

What is the difference between OpenVPN GUI and other VPN clients?
OpenVPN GUI is the official client for OpenVPN on Windows. Unlike commercial VPN apps, it does not come with servers — you must provide your own configuration files.

How do I import .ovpn files?
Copy your .ovpn files into the C:\Users<User>\OpenVPN\config folder, then restart the GUI. The profiles will appear in the tray menu.

What are alternatives to OpenVPN GUI?
If you want a simpler, faster VPN protocol, check out WireGuard. It offers high performance and modern cryptography. Other alternatives include SoftEther or built-in Windows VPN clients.
